“I expect them to score lots of runs in these two Test matches” Sunil Gavaskar on Indian batters against inexperienced South Africa bowling

SA vs IND: Sunil Gavaskar expecting 'lots of runs' from India against toned down South Africa

After a closely contested T20I series and a dominant performance against South Africa in the ODI series, team India is now gearing up for the upcoming two-match Test series against the Proteas. The first Test is scheduled to take place at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, commencing on December 26.

Guided by captain Rohit Sharma, the Indian squad is packed with seasoned players who are expected to play a pivotal role in the Test series. With the anticipation building for the impending Test, former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has expressed confidence in the Indian batting lineup, predicting a strong performance against the Proteas.

Gavaskar emphasized the wealth of experience within the Indian batting contingent, highlighting the team’s capability to put up significant scores, saying “They are experienced batters, who are coming after playing everywhere, so I expect them to score lots of runs in these two Test matches. Not only because they have got so much talent, but this time around, I think the South African attack does not have that edge.”

He also went on to comment on the South African bowling attack, suggesting that it may lack a distinctive edge compared to the Indian batting prowess, adding “With the absence of Nortje, with the likely absence of Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, the South African attack looks a little bit short on experience, I am not saying short of class. So I feel these two batters will score lots of runs and help the Indian team post a big score.”
