In a remarkable display of skill and determination, South Africa’s opening batsman, Aiden Markram, showcased his prowess with a stellar performance, crafting his seventh Test century and his first against India on a challenging pitch at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.

Facing a trail of 98 runs before the innings, Markram emerged as the backbone of the Proteas’ batting lineup. Despite the team losing wickets at regular intervals, the 29-year-old played a heroic innings, reaching his century in just 99 balls. His remarkable knock included 16 fours and two sixes, with the first fifty runs coming in 68 balls and the subsequent fifty in a mere 31 balls.

Notably, Markram’s century carried a poignant tribute to Dean Elgar, who is set to retire after this match. After reaching the milestone, Markram shifted his bat to his left hand, gesturing towards Elgar in the stands.
