Australia announces squad for Test Series against West Indies.
Australia has unveiled a 13-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Pat Cummins will lead the team, with the opening slot up for grabs following David Warner’s departure
Notable inclusions are Cameron Green, Steve Smith, and Matt Renshaw, all contenders for the top-order position alongside Usman Khawaja. Unfortunately, Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris, also vying for the same slot, didn’t make the cut.
The chairman of selectors for Australia, George Bailey, has officially announced the inclusion of Cameron Green in the playing XI. The composition of the playing XI, which also features Mitchell Marsh, strongly suggests a potential promotion for Steve Smith up the batting order. In such a scenario, Cameron Green is anticipated to assume the No. 4 position, mirroring his established role for Western Australia in the domestic cricket circuit.
George Bailey “Cameron Green will come into the playing XI for the Test in Adelaide in a squad also containing Scott Boland and Matthew Renshaw. We have selected a team we believe contains the best six batters in the country.”
“Scott Boland and Matt Renshaw will join the squad prior to the first Test after playing for the Melbourne Stars [on January 15] and Brisbane Heat [on January 13] in the BBL.”
