“When it happens you feel frustrate” – Rohit Sharma opens up getting run-out in mix up with Shubman Gill in 1st Afghanistan T20I.

After a 14-month absence, Rohit Sharma made his return to the T20 format, featuring for India in the first T20I against Afghanistan on Thursday, January 11, in Mohali. Although India secured a comfortable six-wicket victory, Rohit’s batting performance did not leave a lasting impression.

Following a disciplined display by the Indian bowlers, limiting Afghanistan to 158/5 on a decent batting track, Rohit took to the field to open alongside Shubman Gill. Despite fans eagerly anticipating the ‘Hitman’ showcasing his skills, his time at the crease was short-lived. On the second ball of the innings, Rohit attempted to drive a delivery from Fazalhaq Farooqi, sending it straight into the hands of Ibrahim Zadran at mid-off. While Rohit embarked on a single, Gill was unaware, resulting in both batsmen standing at the non-striker’s end as Rohit faced the disappointment of being run-out for a duck.

Clearly frustrated and angry, Rohit expressed his disappointment by directing some words at Gill. During the post-match presentation, the 36-year-old addressed the incident, acknowledging that such situations occur and expressing the frustration of not contributing with the bat. He highlighted his desire for Gill to have a longer innings and praised the Punjab batter’s quick cameo of 23 runs off 12 balls.

Rohit Sharma said โ€œThese things happen (on the run-out). When it happens you feel frustrated, you want to be out there and score runs for the team. Everything will not go your way. We won the game, that’s more important. I wanted Gill to carry on, unfortunately, got out after playing a very good little innings.”
