“So it’s nothing new or foreign to me. I enjoy getting in there” Steve Smith excited for the ‘opening’ challenge in Test.

Steve Smith Opening In Test Cricket

Steven Smith has expressed his enthusiasm for opening the innings for Australia in the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies. Having stepped into the shoes of the retired David Warner, the star batsman is poised to open for the first time in the series commencing on January 17 at the Adelaide Oval.

The 34-year-old highlighted the 2019 Ashes series as a prime example and asserted his ability to thrive against the new ball, underscoring the reason behind his desire to make the move to the top of the batting order. Smith is set to partner with Usman Khawaja at the opening, while Cameron Green may assume the No. 4 position, a role previously occupied by Smith.

Steve Smith (on Fox) said “I am (excited). I like facing the newer ball. I think you look back to 2019 Ashes, I was in pretty early there most of the time where I was facing the new ball. I batted No.3 for a number of years as well and was in early and did pretty well against the new ball. So it’s nothing new or foreign to me. I enjoy getting in there and getting amongst it and I’m looking forward to that challenge.”
