“I think India will win, their spinners are better” – Former England captain’s Atherton predicts the result of 5-match Test series in India.

Former England captain Michael Atherton predicts India will emerge victorious in the upcoming five-match Test series at home. Atherton emphasizes the dominance of India’s spin quartet—Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav—asserting that England’s spinners pale in comparison

Notably, India has clinched 16 consecutive Test home series victories since their 2012 loss to England. The 2016-17 and 2020-21 series saw India triumph over England with scores of 4-0 and 3-1, respectively.

Atherton said “I think India will win. Their spinners are better than England’s, and that will be the defining thing in the end. If you go to India, spin will play a big part. It historically has done, and I suspect it always will do. India do have a very strong seam attack as well.”

In the previous series, Ashwin and Patel secured 32 and 27 wickets, contributing significantly to India’s 3-1 win. Ashwin, with 88 wickets in 19 Tests against England, is on the brink of reaching 500 Test wickets, requiring just 10 more.
