Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal credited his remarkable unbeaten 179* (257) against England in the Vizag Test to the encouragement from skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. Jaiswal expressed gratitude towards them for motivating him to bat through the day. His outstanding performance on day one saw him achieve his highest Test score, contributing significantly to India’s total of 336/6.

While Jaiswal dominated the batting, scoring more than half of the team’s runs, debutant Rajat Patidar’s unfortunate dismissal at 32 (72) was a rare exception. Jaiswal exhibited caution against James Anderson’s consistent bowling, while also capitalizing on opportunities to score boundaries against the spinners. His strategic approach minimized risks, showcasing maturity beyond his years.

Jaiswal said “The wicket was damp in the morning, a bit settled in the afternoon and then when the ball got older it was spinning and they were getting the bounce. I was thinking of how to manage the shot selection just like Rohit bhai and Rahul bhai conveyed. They keep sending me messages that I need to convert it big and make sure that I am playing till the end. I tried to play as many balls as possible.”
