Jasprit Bumrah creates history, becomes the first Indian Fast Bowler to become No.1 in ICC Ranking in Tests.
Jasprit Bumrah has made history by becoming the first Indian pace bowler to claim the top spot in the ICC Menโs Test Bowling Rankings following an exceptional performance in the second match of India’s ICC World Test Championship series against England in Visakhapatnam.
The 30-year-old’s remarkable nine-wicket haul in the match has propelled him past Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, and Ravichandran Ashwin, elevating him to the coveted number one position. Bumrah joins an elite group of Indian bowlers to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of spinners Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bishan Singh Bedi.
Bumrah’s stellar contribution earned him the Player of the Match award as he played a pivotal role in India’s 106-run victory, which helped them level the five-match series. His ascent to the top ranking brings an end to Ashwin’s 11-month reign. Currently, Bumrah boasts a tally of 881 rating points, with Ashwin (904) and Jadeja (899) being the only Indian bowlers to have amassed more rating points in history. It’s noteworthy that Ashwin and Jadeja previously shared the top spot jointly in March 2017.
