“Rohit Sharma should think about his batting rather than captaincy”: Manjrekar on Indian skipper poor form in recent Tests

Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer, has advised Rohit Sharma to prioritize his batting over captaincy. According to Manjrekar, Rohit’s role as a batsman holds greater significance as he possesses the ability to influence the game. The 58-year-old emphasized the importance for Rohit to focus on his batting and adhere to the process during his captaincy stint, urging him not to lose patience after facing dismissals.

Manjrekar’s comments come in the wake of Rohit Sharma’s recent batting performances, where he scored 24, 39, 14, and 13 in the last two Tests against England. Additionally, Rohit recorded scores of 5, 0, 39, and 16 not out in the two-Test series against South Africa, which concluded with a 1-1 draw.

Manjrekar said “I think Rohit Sharma is trying to get all the things right as a captain. It has to be Rohit Sharma the batter first and then the captain because when you are leading a team, there are some things which are beyond your control.”

“Follow the words of MS Dhonbi, who said to go for the process and wait for things to happen. Batting is something that Rohit Sharma can control.”

Highlighting Rohit’s past successes, particularly his centuries in England and against Australia in India, Manjrekar suggested that Rohit should draw inspiration from these performances to refine his batting approach and regain form.

“Rohit should follow the basics he implemented in England and against Australia in India. He had to go back and play as a batsman.”
