Reports: Shreyas Iyer again suffers with stiff back, likely to miss India’s last three Tests against England.

Challenges have intensified for Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer as he may be sidelined from further participation in the ongoing Test series against England. The 29-year-old right-handed batsman had to endure several months of cricketing inactivity last year due to a significant back injury, for which he underwent surgery.

According to a report from The Indian Express, Iyer communicated to the team management his struggle with a stiff back. Additionally, he reportedly expressed concerns about experiencing discomfort in his groin area during his brief time at the crease. A source shared insights with the aforementioned outlet regarding Shreyas Iyer’s potential involvement in the remainder of the Test series:

“Iyer has informed the Indian team management and the medical staff that his back gets stiff after playing more than 30 balls and he feels pain in his groin while playing forward defence. Post surgery, he is facing this issue for the first time so he has been advised to rest for a few weeks. He will head to NCA later.”

Iyer had encountered a back spasm just before the Asia Cup 2023 match against Pakistan, prompting India to opt for KL Rahul instead. These recurring back issues, despite the surgery, are undoubtedly frustrating for both the player and the Indian team.
