“I am pretty certain that he will be the captain of the team and that will make a huge difference,” Sunil Gavaskar on who would be captain of SRH in IPL 2024.

Sunil Gavaskar has voiced his belief that Pat Cummins will lead the charge as captain for the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

In a significant move during last December’s auction, SRH secured Cummins’ services for a staggering ₹20.50 crore, making him one of their marquee signings. Another notable acquisition for SRH was Travis Head, for whom they shelled out ₹6.80 crore.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar weighed in on SRH’s acquisition of Pat Cummins. He highlighted Cummins’ dual prowess as an exceptional bowler and a handy batsman.

Gavaskar said “I think Pat Cummins was a smart buy, maybe a little over-expensive. Smart buy because he will bring the leadership aspect to their team, which was lacking the last time around.”

Last time around, some of the bowling changes that we saw in crucial games were just head-scratching, and that cost them matches. So now with Pat Cummins coming in, I am pretty certain that he will be the captain of the team and that will make a huge difference,” added the former Indian captain

Gavaskar pointed to Cummins’ impressive display with the bat during IPL 2022, where the Australian Test and ODI captain blazed a half-century off just 14 deliveries for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
