“More than the runs he scored” – Ravi Shastri trolls Joe Root for his performance in IND vs ENG Test Series.
In the third Test of the ongoing five-match series in Rajkot, Team India clashed with England. With the series poised evenly, both teams are gearing up for a decisive battle in the forthcoming matches. Despite the overall good form of both teams, the spotlight has been on the performances, or lack thereof, of star England batter Joe Root.
The 33-year-old has struggled to find his rhythm in the ongoing series, and his challenges continued in the Rajkot Test. Accumulating only 70 runs in five innings, Root’s highest score in the series has been a mere 29 runs. To compound his struggles, Root lost his wicket on Day 3 of the third Test while attempting a reverse scoop against Jasprit Bumrah, only to be caught by a slips fielder.
Interestingly, Root has been more impactful with the ball for England than with the bat, having taken seven wickets in the series so far. This twist in his performance dynamics prompted former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri to make a playful comment during commentary.
Ravi Shastri said “Joe Root has bowled 89 overs in this Test series, which is more than the runs he scored.”
