RCB wins back to back matches defeating Gujarat Giants, becomes table toppers in WPL 2024.

RCB’s Womenโ€™s Premier League (WPL) 2024 campaign commenced with back-to-back victories, the latest being an 8-wicket triumph over Gujarat Gainats (GG) at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 27.

This victory propelled RCB to the top of the points table, edging out Mumbai Indias in net run-rate. Mumbai Indias have also clinched two wins. Opting to field after winning the toss, Smriti Mandhana’s RCB restricted Gujarat to 107/7 in 20 overs, showcasing a disciplined bowling performance.

Player of the Match, Renuka Singh, scalped crucial wickets, including those of Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield, conceding only 14 runs in her spell. Other bowlers like Wareham and Sophie Molineux contributed significantly to restrict Gujarat’s scoring rate.

In response, RCB chased down the target comfortably with 45 balls to spare. Mandhana led the charge with a brisk 43 off 27 deliveries, well-supported by Sabbhineni Meghana, who remained unbeaten on 36 off 28 balls. Notably, Meghana surpassed 2000 runs in T20 cricket during her innings.

Ellyse Perry’s quickfire 23 not out off 14 balls added the finishing touches to RCB’s victory. With an impressive net run rate of +1.665 from 2 matches, RCB women’s team appears as strong contenders for the upcoming knockout stage.
