India will not drop Rajat Patidar for the 5th Test against England in Dharamshala: Reports.
The beginning of Rajat Patidar’s Test cricket journey has proven challenging. Despite his impressive track record in domestic red-ball cricket and for India A, his performance in the longest format has been lackluster. With established players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul absent, Patidar had the opportunity to stake his claim for a permanent spot in the Test squad. However, he has struggled, managing only 63 runs in six innings at an average of 10.5, displaying discomfort at the crease.
Despite the availability of Devdutt Padikkal, who is yet to make his Test debut, reports suggest that India’s selectors are backing Patidar for the fifth Test against England in Dharamshala.
A BCCI source told โThe team wants Patidar to get one more chance as they feel Patidar has talent and itโs a matter of time before he gets runs. As India has already won the series, the team wants to try him out one more time instead of giving a debut to Devdutt Padikkal.”
The decision comes as KL Rahul, still recovering from a quadriceps injury, will miss the final Test of the series, allowing Patidar another opportunity to prove himself on the international stage
