“Had no idea Alex Carey was on 98*” – Australian skipper Pat Cummins after finishing the game in 2nd Test against New Zealand.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has revealed that he was unaware of wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s score of 98 not out when he struck the winning runs in the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch on Monday, March 11.

With the visitors needing just two runs to secure victory, Cummins smashed a boundary, securing a thrilling win for his team with three wickets in hand. This victory also enabled Australia to clinch a 2-0 whitewash over the Kiwis.

Pat Cummins (in post match presentation) said โ€œPretty tense, everyone was nervous the last couple of hours.
Amazing win. (On winning runs) Anyway possible to win, I had no idea he (Carey) was on 98.”

Cummins himself remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 44 deliveries, including four boundaries, and shared a crucial 61-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Carey.

This isn’t the first time Cummins has played a pivotal role with the bat in a tense situation. He had previously helped secure a similar nail-biting victory against England in the Ashes last year at Edgbaston, where Australia won by three wickets.
