The Ashes 2023 1st Test :England captain Ben Stokes has expressed “no regrets” regarding his team’s highly-debated Day 1 declaration, despite ultimately losing the first Test of the Ashes 2023. Stokes defended his decision, stating that he saw it as an opportunity to put the Australian batters under pressure in the final moments of the day. He further affirmed that England would continue to make such bold moves in the future. Despite having two wickets in hand, including a well-set Joe Root at the crease batting at 118, England declared at 393-8 on the first day. Australia eventually chased down a target of 281 runs in a thrilling fashion, led by captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon’s nine-wicket partnership.
