Ricky Ponting discloses that he was offered the opportunity to coach England’s Test team before Brendon McCullum.

Ricky Ponting, the former captain of the Australian cricket team, recently disclosed that he was offered the opportunity to coach England’s Test team before Brendon McCullum was appointed. Rob Key, the Director of Men’s Cricket at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), ultimately selected the former New Zealand captain as the team’s new head coach. Under McCullum’s guidance, England has achieved an impressive record, winning 11 out of 14 Tests. However, Ponting revealed that Key had approached him about taking up the role, but he declined the offer.

Ponting, currently serves as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and had previously worked with the Australian team during the 2019 World Cup.

Ponting said “I was asked to coach England before Brendon McCullum. I turned down the offer as I have a young family. I can’t stay away from them for a long time. And even Brendon’s family is arriving today in England. When your kids are in school, you can’t move them much.”
