Give Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli A Complete Break From Test Cricket: Sunil Gavaskar.
The West Indies tour in July-August marks the commencement of Team India’s third World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for 2023-25. Following their defeat against Australia in the 2023 WTC final at The Oval in London, Cheteshwar Pujara, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav have been excluded from the squad for the two-match Test series. In their place, three young players, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar, have been given the opportunity to represent India in the longest format of the game.
Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the team, supported by experienced players like Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravindra Jadeja. Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer, believes that the West Indies tour provides an excellent chance for the team management to explore and evaluate the potential of the next generation of Test cricketers. Considering their recent performances, he opines that the senior players in the squad may no longer possess the same level of dominance.
Sunil Gavaskar said โThe WTC is gone, we missed out there but the next big thing is the ODI World Cup. I would have preferred the big boys to be given a complete break from Test cricket. Look at only the 50-over format and maybe T20s too as it is the abbreviated version. I would have only wanted them to focus on white-ball cricket,”.
