“I would not say chokers” :Ravi Shastri for Indian Team not winning ICC Trophies.

India’s quest for an ICC trophy has remained elusive since 2013, despite numerous attempts to experiment with different combinations, strategies, coaches, and captains. This has led some fans to label the team as “chokers.” However, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri disagrees with this notion. As a member of the victorious 1983 World Cup team, Shastri believes that the current Indian team is capable of playing good cricket but falls short when it matters the most.

According to Shastri, the key reason for India’s failures in ICC events is the lack of consistent effort from all players. He highlighted that in recent times, only India and Australia were considered as strong contenders to win all three ICC trophies. However, India’s batsmen have failed to deliver on the big stage, leading to their downfall in these prestigious tournaments. Shastri believes that the inability to perform at crucial moments has been a major contributing factor to India’s disappointments in ICC competitions.

Ravi Shastri said “I would not say that (chokers). I mean, these two teams that were playing (India and Australia) were the only two teams that had a chance to win all three World Cups. And it is not that we have been rolled over (at World Cups). We have been in semi-finals, we have been in finals. We have not got it because when you want to win the big one, you need a combined effort. You cannot blame one individual, one captain,”.

He further added “You need 100s in a World Cup, World Test Championship final. Then you have a good chance of setting it up for the bowlers and winning the trophy. If you do not get a 100, you need at least three 50s, whether it is Test, T20 or one-day cricket. If you have not done that, you do not deserve to win,”
