‘Not something new to me’ Mitchell Starc open up about being dropped in the 1st Ashes Test.

The Ashes: Australia began their Ashes 2023 campaign on a positive note by securing a two-wicket victory over England in the opening match held at Edgbaston. Prior to the game, team captain Pat Cummins made a difficult decision to exclude their renowned seamer, Mitchell Starc, in favor of Josh Hazlewood, who had recovered from an injury. Hazlewood had been unable to participate in the World Test Championship 2023 final against India at the Oval, where his spot was filled by Scott Boland, who emerged as Australia’s standout bowler during the match.

Consequently, as they prepared for the first Test, the team management faced the challenging task of omitting their leading seamer from the playing XI. In response to his exclusion from the initial game, Starc expressed his familiarity with such situations while playing in England, emphasizing that it was not something new to him.

Starc said “I’m used to it now coming to England. It’s a squad mentality, much the same as last time. Been around long enough, been dropped enough. Probably dropped the most in this squad. Not something new to me, won’t be the last time, either. It’s never fun, everyone wants to play,”
