The ICC and BCCI made a joint announcement on Tuesday, June 27, in Mumbai, revealing the schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. This edition of the tournament holds special significance as it marks the first time that India will be the sole host nation. India had previously hosted the World Cup in 2011, a tournament they triumphed in under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

The victory in 2011 was attributed to the remarkable contributions of players like Yuvraj Singh, who was named the Player of the Tournament. Yuvraj’s outstanding performance included scoring 362 runs and taking 15 wickets. Drawing upon this past success, former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth believes that players such as Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel have the potential to play a similar influential role in the upcoming World Cup. As India aims to break their decade-long ICC trophy drought, Srikkanth sees Jadeja and Patel as players capable of making significant contributions to the team’s success.

“In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play. We had a fantastic side, very well led by (MS) Dhoni, too, and that time we have Yuvraj Singh. I believe Ravindra Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup. I believe Jadeja, the Axar Patels… these people will play a very crucial role if India has to win this 2023 World Cup,”
