“Ajit Agarkar can also ask the question to Rohit Sharma” Aakash Chopra over Ravi Ashwin exclusion in WTC Final.
Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opening batsman, has shared his thoughts on what he expects from Ajit Agarkar in his new role as the chairman of selectors for the Indian men’s cricket team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Agarkar to this position on July 4, shortly after he resigned from his post as the assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals.
Chopra expressed his belief that Agarkar, as the chief selector, holds the authority to question Rohit Sharma regarding the omission of Ravichandran Ashwin from the Indian squad in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June.
Chopra said “Ajit Agarkar can also ask the question to Rohit, ‘why didn’t you play Ashwin? What was the thought process?’ He doesn’t decide the XI but he has the right to ask, because he is the chairman of selectors,”.
Chopra highlighted the challenges for Ajit Agarkar saying “You will be remembered for the results that you produce. Just like your coaching is judged on the basis of results, when you take up the role of selector, the way your team has performed, whether you handled the transition well, could you prepare the next generation of players, did you give your team the best chance to win the trophy… these are the questions that will be asked from Agarkar,” .
