Aakash Chopra praises Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of his debut, says “He scored truckloads of runs in First Class”.

Young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal is poised to make his Test debut for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming Test match against the West Indies on Wednesday, July 12. The highly anticipated match will be held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Dominica, marking the beginning of a two-match Test series as part of India’s multi-format tour to the Caribbean.

Jaiswal’s remarkable performance in domestic cricket, particularly while representing Mumbai and West Zone, has earned him a well-deserved call-up to the Test squad. At just 21 years old, he concluded the IPL 2023 season as the fifth-highest run scorer, accumulating an impressive total of 625 runs from 14 matches. His batting average stood at 48.07, with a remarkable strike rate of 163.61.

Furthermore, Jaiswal’s excellence extends beyond the IPL, as demonstrated by his noteworthy contributions in first-class cricket. He has accumulated a staggering 1845 runs in 15 matches, boasting an exceptional average of 80.21 and a strike rate of 67.48. His impressive record includes nine centuries and two half-centuries, highlighting his consistent performance in the longer format of the game.

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, expressed his admiration for the young talent while discussing the upcoming Test match between India and the West Indies on JioCinema. Chopra said “The good thing about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s selection is that it’s not just on the back of IPL runs. Yes, he was absolutely phenomenal and scintillating in this edition of the IPL, but then he scored a mountain of runs—truckloads of runs—in First Class cricket playing for Mumbai and West Zone.”
