Pakistan’s Salman Butt calls Virat Kohli a much “superior player” then Joe Root.

Star Indian batsman, Virat Kohli, displayed a stellar performance, scoring an impressive century on Day 2 of the second Test match between India and West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. His magnificent knock of 121 runs off 206 deliveries included 11 boundaries, and it played a crucial role in helping India reach a total of 438 runs in the first innings. Notably, this was Kohli’s first century away from home since 2018 when he achieved the feat in Perth against Australia.

In recent years, Kohli had faced some challenges in Test cricket, struggling to reach the century mark. However, earlier this year, he managed to break his hundred drought with a brilliant century against Australia in Ahmedabad. The 34-year-old cricketer had been enduring a tough period in his career since 2020, but his determination and skill enabled him to overcome the hurdles.

Meanwhile, during Kohli’s challenging phase, his contemporary and one of his strongest competitors, Joe Root, was flourishing in Test cricket. Root had been in the form of his life, becoming the highest run-scorer in Test cricket since 2019.

Recently, former Pakistan cricketer, Salman Butt, made an interesting observation while comparing Root’s batting style to Kohli’s. Root has been seen employing a new batting technique, utilizing scoops against seamers. On the other hand, Indian batters, including Kohli, have traditionally played the ball on its merit, with only a few being more aggressive in their approach.

Salman Butt on his YT channel said “If all of your friends are doing something and you aren’t, you will eventually pick some habits from them because you’re eventually playing with them. Indian batters, both new and old, like to play the ball on its merit. There would only be one or two players who play very aggressively.”

Salman Butt moreover expressed his belief that Indian batsman Virat Kohli is a much superior player compared to Joe Root, saying โ€œWhereas England’s culture has become going out-of-the-box If someone plays defensively, he looks out-of-the-box. It’s opposite in India. I don’t think Virat Kohli needs to do anything like that. He’s a much superior player,โ€ he added.
