“I didn’t bowl very well at all, not up to the standards”, Pat Cummins reflects on his poor performance in the 4th Test after retaining Ashes.

Under the astute leadership of Pat Cummins, the Australian cricket team has been experiencing a resurgence of their past glories. In a remarkable feat, Australia clinched victory in the highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final against India. Building on this success, they went on to retain the Ashes for the fourth consecutive time after the fourth Test at Old Trafford ended in a draw due to inclement weather.

The final game at Manchester was a nail-biting encounter, with the hosts holding a slight advantage after the stumps on Day 4. Australia found themselves at 214/5 in the second innings, trailing by a mere 61 runs. Unfortunately, the final day was marred by persistent rain, rendering any play impossible and resulting in the draw.

Aussies faced their fair share of challenges during the match at Manchester, particularly on Day 2. The English side unleashed a ferocious batting assault, scoring at a staggering rate of over seven runs per over. Pat Cummins, along with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood, toiled tirelessly in the face of the onslaught. Regrettably, Cummins had one of the toughest spells in his Test career, conceding 129 runs in 23 overs while managing to secure only one wicket.

Cummins in the presentation said โ€œThat two-hour block in the middle session wasn’t our best. “We tried to throw a few different plans at them and maybe on another day they work; a couple of the edges carry through or some of the catches go to hand, but I thought they batted well.

He further stated “As a bowler it’s frustrating that I didn’t bowl very well at all, not up to the standards I try and keep myself to. Just execution. I let through more boundaries than I normally do. Probably just one or two bad balls an over. “I don’t know (why) really. Rhythm felt pretty good, I felt like I was pretty clear in my own mind with plans, so I don’t know.”
