“It is like discussing the best captains and forgetting MS Dhoni”, says Salman Butt as Babar Azam’s does not feature in the 2023 World Cup promo.
In a recent development, former Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt has expressed his disappointment over the absence of Pakistan captain Babar Azam from the promo material released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the Cricket ODI World Cup 2023. Butt asserted that the exclusion of the star batter from the advertisement was unjust and garnered support from Babar’s devoted fanbase.
Being one of the consistent batsmen in modern-day cricket, Babar’s absence from the World Cup promo left many wondering about the rationale behind the decision. Drawing parallels, Butt likened the situation to having discussions about the best cricket captains in history without mentioning legendary figures such as MS Dhoni and Imran Khan. Just like Dhoni and Imran, Babar’s leadership qualities and remarkable batting skills have made him a standout player in the cricketing world. Thus, his exclusion from the promotional campaign appears glaring and, according to Butt, does not do justice to his significance in the game.
Salman Butt on his YT said “It is not a big deal. Babar is not dying to be in a promo. His fans aren’t happy with this, and their anger is justified. It is like talking about the best batter in world cricket and not speaking about someone with hundred centuries, or discussing the best captains and forgetting MS Dhoni, Ian Chappell, and Imran Khan. It will surely look biased.”
