The 2023 Asia Cup squad is unlikely to feature KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer due to their ongoing recoveries from respective injuries. Sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have indicated that the pair is not ready for competitive cricket yet. However, their participation in the subsequent three-match ODI series against Australia is being strongly considered.Shreyas Iyer underwent back surgery after experiencing persistent injury troubles, and KL Rahul sustained his injury during the 2023 IPL season.

Although Rahul has started practicing in the nets, it is believed that he is not fully fit for competitive cricket.The majority of the squad is expected to comprise members who recently played in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
