Andy Flower becomes new coach of RCB in IPL.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced that Andy Flower will be assuming the role of the men’s head coach from IPL 2024, starting on Friday, August 4. He will be taking over the position previously held by Sanjay Bangar. The franchise also confirmed the departure of Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, following their sixth-place finish in the IPL 2023.

Andy Flower, a former Zimbabwe international cricketer, will become the seventh individual entrusted with the responsibility of leading RCB and ending their trophy drought. In their official statement, the team emphasized their commitment to fostering a “championship-winning mindset” within the squad.

Franchise stated “We are beyond thrilled to welcome ICC Hall of Famer and T20 World Cup winning coach Andy Flower as the Head Coach of RCB Men’s team. Andy’s experience of coaching IPL & T20 teams around the world, and leading his teams to titles at the PSL, ILT20, The Hundred and Abu Dhabi T10 will help in developing a championship winning mindset and take RCB’s #PlayBold philosophy forward.”

Mike Hesson began his tenure with RCB in 2019, while Sanjay Bangar initially served as the batting coach in 2021 before being promoted to the head coach position the following year. Despite reaching the playoffs for three consecutive years between 2020 and 2022, RCB’s performance saw a decline in the 2023 season, culminating in a sixth-place finish.

Flower also expressed his gratitude on joining RCB saying “I am really proud to be joining RCB. I’m truly honoured to represent a franchise of their size, reputation and standing. RCB have an unrivalled fan following and I can’t wait to fully experience the atmosphere in the Chinnaswamy next season.”
