“If he doesn’t score runs, the questions will become bigger”: Aakash Chopra on Shubman Gill failure in T20I series against West Indies.
Aakash Chopra suggests that Shubman Gill’s spot in India’s T20I squad might come under scrutiny if he continues to struggle with his batting performance. During the third T20I against West Indies on August 8, the hosts set a target of 160 runs. Although both openers, including Gill, scored poorly (six runs off 11 balls), India managed to achieve victory with seven wickets and 13 deliveries to spare.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Chopra emphasized the importance of Gill stepping up his game to silence doubts regarding his position in the playing XI.
Chopra said “Yashasvi Jaiswal came to open alongside Shubman Gill. Yashasvi got out in the first over. He tried to play a big shot and got out. Shubman Gill once again got out, this time off Alzarri Joseph’s bowling. He was dismissed off his bowling in the last match as well.”
He added on “Questions will be raised. He committed a mistake once again. He will play for now but it is important that he scores runs, because if he doesn’t score runs, the questions will become bigger.”
