“He is not going to get conditions like Ahmedabad everywhere”, Wasim Jaffer talks upon Shubman Gill recent struggle.

Former Indian opening batsman, Wasim Jaffer, has offered some valuable advice to the promising young talent, Shubman Gill, focusing on his need to adapt effectively to varying playing surfaces. Jaffer delved into Gill’s recent struggle with form, particularly during the West Indies tour. Despite a blazing beginning to the year, during which Gill achieved remarkable milestones including four centuries and a double century within a span of ten innings, his performance has been lackluster since then, with the exception of his performances in the IPL.

Following an uneventful three-match ODI series against Australia subsequent to the Test matches, Gill made a resounding impact during the IPL, emerging as the top run-scorer of the tournament with an impressive tally of 890 runs for the Gujarat Titans (GT). However, the opener has encountered significant challenges with the bat subsequently, managing to surpass the 50-run mark only once in his last 11 international innings.

Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo, Jaffer pointed out that Gill’s inclination to strike the ball on the rise might be a hindrance on the sluggish tracks of the West Indies, where the ball tends to behave differently saying

“These West Indies surfaces are like that, you have to wait for it and can’t just keep hitting on the rise which Shubman likes. But one thing he needs to understand is he is not going to get conditions like Ahmedabad everywhere. So the better he gets used to the other surfaces and adapts to the surfaces it’s going to do him wonders.”
