“I do not know about the World Cup and all, but definitely the guy is talented”- Rohit Sharma on Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma’s international career has kicked off on an impressive note, with the young cricketer emerging as the top run-scorer in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies. With 139 runs from three innings, the 20-year-old holds an impressive average of 69.50 and a strike rate of 139. His stellar performances have garnered attention not only from fans but also from fellow cricketers, including Ravichandran Ashwin, who has suggested him as a potential option for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has also weighed in on Varma’s remarkable displays, expressing his admiration for the youngster’s achievements. It’s worth noting that Varma gained prominence during IPL 2022 while playing for the Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. His performance in the tournament was exceptional, earning him the status of the second-highest run-scorer for his team with an impressive total of 397 runs.

Rohit Sharma said “He looks very promising. I have seen him for two years now, he has got the hunger, and that is the most important thing. In him I can see, for the age that he is of, he is quite matured. He knows his batting so well. When I speak with him I understand that the boy knows his batting – where he has to hit, what he has to do in that period.”

“That is all that I will say about him, I do not know about the World Cup and all, but definitely the guy is talented and he showed it in these few games that he has played for India,”
