“In this format, he will be fine” Greg Chappell backs Shubman Gill for a great World Cup 2023.

Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell is optimistic about opener Shubman Gill’s performance in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Gill faced a challenging period during the recent West Indies tour, managing only a couple of half-centuries throughout.

Chappell’s perspective is that the conditions in India, characterized by pitches that offer less assistance to bowlers, could work to Gill’s advantage. Unlike his struggles in red-ball cricket, Chappell believes that Gill is less likely to encounter similar challenges in ODIs.

Chappell said “I think in this format, he will be fine. I expect him to do very well. He has shown before that he does very well in this format. The issue that I have seen with him is more pronounced in red ball cricket where the ball can move around a little bit more and catching fielders are in positions for much longer.”
