“There’s still a long time before everyone is meant to get on the plane”, Jos Buttler hints for inclusion of Harry Brook in the World Cup squad.
England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, has expressed his belief that the emerging talent, Harry Brook, has unfortunately missed out on a spot in the current ODI squad. Buttler remains optimistic that Brook could still secure a position in the final ODI World Cup squad should the right opportunity present itself. Brook’s spot was taken by the red-ball captain, Ben Stokes, who had retired from ODIs last year but has since reversed his decision after discussions with the ECB. Despite his return, Stokes will not be participating as a bowler in the 50-overs format due to an ongoing knee issue.
Meanwhile, the selectors continue to keep a close eye on Harry Brook. His recent standout performance in the 2023 Hundred, where he scored an impressive 105 runs off just 42 deliveries, has garnered significant attention and praise. In light of this, Jos Buttler was questioned about Brook’s absence from the national team. In response, the skipper commended Brook for his recent displays and assured him that his notable performances have not gone unnoticed, emphasizing that he remains a part of the team’s plans moving forward.
Buttler (to ESPN) said โThere’s still a long time before everyone is meant to get on the plane, so we’ll wait and see what happens. We all know Harry’s a fantastic player and we saw what he could do the other night. It’s not like it’s a surprise: we know what a brilliant player he is, he’s just the unfortunate one at the moment to not be in that squad at the moment.โ
