“I wasn’t able to express myself properly” – Shreyas Iyer opens up on his return after injury phase.
Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has candidly discussed the prolonged back injury that sidelined him from cricketing action for an extended period. In his revelations, Iyer disclosed the intense and agonizing pain he endured due to this injury, highlighting his challenges in effectively conveying the extent of his discomfort.
Originating from Mumbai, the talented right-handed batter’s last appearance was during the fourth Test match against Australia in March. Regrettably, he did not have the opportunity to bat in either innings of that match. This injury subsequently led to his absence from subsequent events, including the ODI series against Australia, the 2023 IPL season, and the World Test Championship final held in England in June.
In a video shared on BCCI.tv, Shreyas Iyer opened up about the intricate details of his injury experience. He disclosed that the injury entailed nerve compression, resulting in excruciating pain that extended from his back all the way down to his toe.
Shreyas Iyer on BCCI Tv said “To be precise I had a nerve compression, basically a slip disk, which was compressing the nerve and the pain was going all the way down to the bottom of my tiny toe and it was horrendous, to be honest, at that point of time. I was in excruciating pain and I wasn’t able to express myself properly about which I’m going through.”
“I had this issue for a while, but I was taking injection and was going through various routes to see to it that I am steady and playing any more matches. But it reached a saturation point where I realized I have to get a surgery and the physios and the experts told me it was important you go under the knife and get this done with straight.”
