“Definitely Virat and Babar” : AB de Villiers picks his contenders for highest run-getter. in Asia Cup 2023

AB de Villiers has expressed his confidence in Virat Kohli and Babar Azam as potential top run-scorers in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The former South African captain emphasized that neither Sri Lanka nor the other participating nations have displayed the same level of consistency as Kohli and Babar.

This anticipation of cricketing superstars going head-to-head will materialize when India faces Pakistan in a highly anticipated Asia Cup clash scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 2023, in Pallekele.

During a Q&A session on his YouTube channel, De Villiers was asked to share his insights on who he believes will emerge as the leading run-scorer in both the Asia Cup and the forthcoming ODI World Cup, set to take place in India in October-November.

Ab De Villiers said “My favorites for Asia Cup definitely Virat and Babar. I haven’t seen a lot of the Sri Lankans or other players in incredible form. That’s where Virat and Babar are different. When they score runs, they score 130s-150s. They really knuckle down. I think we would see their names up there and I would be pleasantly surprised to see someone else up there.” 

Regarding the ODI World Cup, which is slated to be played in India, De Villiers asserted that the leading run-scorer would likely be determined by the players’ current form and performance leading up to the tournament.

Saying “It’s a tough one. I am not really sure. There are a lot of guys that can do it. We look at guys who are in form – Babar, Kane Williamson. Obviously, Virat will be up there somewhere along the line. Virat absolutely loves 50-over cricket. His name will be up there for sure.”
