“This knock was better than his double hundred” , Aakash Chopra praises Shubman Gill’s knock against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match.

In a recent development, former cricketer and analyst Aakash Chopra has voiced his opinion on Shubman Gill’s remarkable century during India’s Super Four clash against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. According to Chopra, Gill’s century in this particular encounter surpassed his earlier double hundred against New Zealand this year in terms of quality and significance.

The thrilling match took place in Colombo on Friday, September 15, where the Bangla Tigers set a challenging target of 266 runs for the Men in Blue. In response, Shubman Gill displayed his exceptional batting prowess by scoring 121 runs from 133 deliveries. However, despite his valiant efforts, India fell short, managing only 259 runs before being bowled out, resulting in a heart-wrenching six-run loss.

Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on this exceptional innings by Gill in a video posted on his YouTube channel, commending the young cricketer for his mature and composed performance. Ultimately, Gill’s innings came to an end when he attempted to clear the boundary but was caught at long-off, falling prey to Mahedi Hasan’s bowling.

Aakash Chopra said “Shubman Gill – a very, very, very mature knock. This player has also hit a double century in ODI cricket, you would remember that, but this knock was better than his double hundred.”

Chopra underscored the challenging conditions Gill faced during the game, where wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Despite the mounting pressure, Gill stood firm at one end, anchoring the innings.

“You can check the conditions, the way the ball was turning slightly and getting stuck on the pitch. It was also moving left and right with the new ball. It was not easy to bat under lights against the new ball and then the spinners kept everyone in check,” Chopra added.
