“They are too worried about their stats” -Simon Doull call Indian batters not “fearless”.
Former New Zealand international, Simon Doull, has expressed his perspective on the playing style of the Indian men’s cricket team. In Doull’s view, the team tends to adopt a cricket strategy that is more focused on statistics rather than playing with a fearless approach. He suggests that some of the batters on the team may be overly preoccupied with their personal statistics.
Doull’s comments come in light of India’s recent performance in the 2023 Asia Cup, where they have adhered to their tried-and-tested methods. Particularly, on the slow and turning pitches in Sri Lanka, the Indian team has chosen to place significant reliance on one of their top-order batsmen to anchor the innings. This approach has involved a conservative approach in the earlier stages of the innings, reserving a more aggressive style of play for the later stages, especially during the death overs.
Simon Doull told Sky Sports โFearless cricket is their issue, They donโt play fearless cricket enough. They play statistics-driven cricket and they are too worried about their stats too often. And to me, that is the one area I am concerned about their batting side.”
