“Just remember you’ve got a little more time on your hands when it comes to 50-over cricket”, Ravi Shastri gives Suryakumar Yadav a advice for ODI cricket.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has offered advice to struggling ODI batsman Suryakumar Yadav, suggesting that he should adapt his T20 batting approach to the 50-over format. While Yadav is currently the world’s top-ranked T20I batsman, he has encountered difficulties in ODI cricket. In 27 ODIs, he has managed only 537 runs at an average of 24.40 with two half-centuries.

Despite his struggles in ODIs, the Indian management views Yadav as a potential match-winner and has included him in the provisional 15-member World Cup squad.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Shastri recommended an approach for Yadav in ODIs that involves allowing himself more time to settle into the innings while maintaining the aggressive batting style that has made him successful in T20s.

Ravi Shastri said “If I were to speak to him, I’d tell him just keep it simple. Just remember you’ve got a little more time on your hands when it comes to 50-over cricket. You don’t have to change too much. You still keep it simple, like how you approach T20 cricket.”

Shastri believes that with this approach, Yadav has the potential to single-handedly turn games in India’s favor.

“In 50-over cricket, give yourself an extra five balls, you’re allowed to, but don’t change anything else. Keep that tempo going; there are other batsmen around you who can do the job. If you pull it off, play 40-50 balls, you might just win the game on your own,” added Shastri.
