Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur likely to be rested for 3rd ODI against Australia in Rajkot.

Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will be absent from the Indian squad for the third and final ODI against Australia, scheduled to take place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27. However, they are expected to rejoin the team in Guwahati, where India is gearing up for their warm-up match ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

In the initial two ODIs of the series, Shubman Gill played a pivotal role, contributing significantly to India’s performance. Gill showcased his batting prowess by notching up a half-century and a century in the respective matches. Impressively, the 24-year-old batsman has already accumulated five ODI centuries this year, including two against New Zealand and one each against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Australia. His tally stands at 1230 runs in 20 innings, boasting an impressive average of 72.35 runs per innings and a strike rate of 105.03. This outstanding performance positions him as the leading run-scorer in ODIs for the year 2023.

Conversely, Shardul Thakur, the versatile all-rounder, struggled to make an impact with the ball in both ODI matches. Unfortunately, he remained wicketless in these contests and did not have an opportunity to showcase his batting skills.
