“Told him I had played World Cup while battling cancer” – Yuvraj Singh gives message to Shubman Gill on recovery ahead of Pakistan match.
Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian all-rounder, is expressing optimism about the timely recovery of opener Shubman Gill in preparation for the highly anticipated 2023 World Cup clash against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, scheduled for Saturday. Yuvraj, who is also Gill’s mentor and has played a pivotal role in the young cricketer’s ascent to international cricket, shared a personal anecdote to motivate Gill during his recovery.
Gill had missed India’s initial two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan due to an illness, and although he is presently in Ahmedabad, where the showdown with arch-rivals Pakistan looms, there remains some uncertainty regarding his participation in the match.
In a conversation with ANI, Yuvraj disclosed that he had related his own experience of playing cricket in the 2011 World Cup while battling cancer. This heartfelt exchange between Yuvraj and Gill showcases the unique bond between mentor and protege, offering hope and inspiration to fans who eagerly await Gill’s return to the field.
Yuvraj Singh said“Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team. Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game.”
When you have a fever and dengue, it is really tough to play a cricket match, and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit, then he will definitely play,” he added.
