Pat Cummins Doesn’t Deserve To Be In Australia’s Playing XI: Gautam Gambhir after Australia suffers a big loss against South Africa in World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has expressed strong opinions regarding Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, following their lackluster performance at the outset of the 2023 World Cup campaign.

Australia has encountered a string of disappointments, having suffered losses in their initial two matches of the tournament. Their defeats at the hands of India in Chennai and South Africa in Delhi were marked by significant margins. The primary area of concern has been their batting, as not a single Australian batsman has managed to score a fifty in these matches. In stark contrast, other teams have already registered a total of 12 centuries in just 10 matches.

In addition to their batting woes, Australia’s bowling performance also came under scrutiny during the match against South Africa. The team’s fielding, notably plagued by the dropping of six catches and a few ground fielding errors, further compounded their woes.

Gautam Gambhir, has voiced a critical assessment of Pat Cummins’ performance. Cummins, who has been struggling with an average of 69 with the ball in ODIs during 2023, has come under Gambhir’s scrutiny. Gambhir believes that Cummins may not be deserving of a place in Australia’s ODI playing XI. Instead, Gambhir suggests that Steve Smith should be appointed as the captain of the Australian ODI team.

Gambhir said

“I think Pat Cummins doesn’t deserve to compete for Australia in ODIs. They can include Cameron Green in his place as he can contribute in the batting department.”

“Steve Smith should lead the Australian team in white ball cricket. Pat Cummins doesn’t get a spot in this ODI XI – he should continue playing red ball cricket.”
