“He is not close to the king” – Aakash Chopra on Pakistanis calling Babar Azam better than Kohli.
Aakash Chopra has recently emphasized that Babar Azam has not yet reached the same level of performance as Virat Kohli, despite the beliefs of certain Pakistan fans. In a World Cup 2023 match held on October 20 in Bengaluru, Australia set a formidable target of 368 runs for the Pakistan cricket team. Unfortunately, Babar Azam, the Pakistani skipper, was dismissed for a mere 18 runs, and his team eventually succumbed to a total of 305 runs, resulting in a 62-run defeat to the Australians. This loss also led to Pakistan relinquishing their position in the top four of the tournament’s points table.
Chopra expressed his viewpoint regarding the comparison between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli in a video posted on his YouTube channel. He suggested that it is premature to draw parallels between the two talented batsmen.
Chopra said “The world rates Babar. Pakistan calls him ‘king’. They say a lot of times that he is better than King Kohli or at par with him. At this point in time, he is not. He is not close to the king.”
“I am telling you the truth because Babar’s journey has just started and Virat Kohli has already reached there – 48 ODI centuries, 79 total centuries, what a player.”
In the specific match mentioned, Babar Azam’s dismissal was the result of a remarkable catch by Pat Cummins at mid-wicket, following a delivery from Adam Zampa. Notably, Babar Azam has only managed to cross the 20-run mark on one occasion in his four innings during the ongoing World Cup.
