“Travis Head and David Warner are playing video game”, fans reacts upon the Australian opening pair carnage against New Zealand.

In a crucial encounter during the ODI World Cup 2023 in Dharamsala on October 28, Australia faced off against New Zealand. Stand-in captain Tom Latham won the toss and elected to field first, expecting some help for the pacers from the new ball. However, the shine on the new ball quickly faded due to the explosive partnership between David Warner and the returning Travis Head.

The latter proved to be the more aggressive of the two, as they set the stage with a destructive 175-run opening partnership off 117 balls. Head and Warner relentlessly attacked the Kiwi bowlers, hitting at least one boundary in each of the first 13 overs. Warner’s fiery innings came to an end at 81 off 65 balls, featuring five fours and six sixes.

On the other hand, Travis Head continued his onslaught and reached a remarkable century in just 59 balls. His incredible innings was cut short when he got an inside edge while attempting to play a shot to the off-side off Glenn Phillips’ delivery.

Despite his departure, Head’s remarkable 109-run innings off 67 balls, including 10 fours and seven towering sixes, put New Zealand on the backfoot in the trans-Tasman clash. Notably, this was Head’s first appearance in Australia’s World Cup campaign, as he had been sidelined with an injured left hand, with Mitchell Marsh filling in for him alongside Warner.

Travis Head’s century marked a significant achievement, as he became the fifth Australian to score a century on their World Cup debut. Moreover, his century is the fourth-fastest hundred ever recorded by an Australian player in ODI cricket. It’s worth noting that Glenn Maxwell achieved the fastest century by an Australian player in ODIs in the previous game against the Netherlands, reaching the milestone in just 40 balls.

The cricket world was left in awe as Travis Head and David Warner effortlessly dismantled the New Zealand bowling attack. Let’s take a look on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) reactions and memes to this stunning display of batting prowess.
