“One tournament doesn’t define his class but the truth is that he hasn’t batted well for 1.5 months” – Aakash Chopra talks on Babar Azam’s World Cup campaign.
Aakash Chopra has openly acknowledged Babar Azam’s undeniable cricketing prowess, despite his recent indifferent performance in the 2023 World Cup. However, it is important to note that Chopra has also highlighted a concerning trend regarding the Pakistan captain’s performance over a significant period.
During a league-phase clash in Kolkata on October 31, the Pakistan bowlers successfully dismissed Bangladesh for a total of 204 runs. Despite Babar Azam’s early dismissal, Pakistan secured a comprehensive seven-wicket victory with 17.3 overs to spare, underlining the team’s strength and depth.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra expressed his uncertainty about the reasons behind Babar Azam’s recent dip in form.
Aakash Chopra said “What has happened to Babar Azam? What’s the medicine for this illness? It’s not understandable as of now. Someone messaged yesterday, and I personally don’t agree although he is my friend, that he is a minnow-basher because he doesn’t score runs in other places.”
“There is no doubt that he is a good player. One tournament doesn’t define his class but the truth is that he hasn’t batted well for one-and-a-half months. He scored 150 against Nepal but after that you don’t remember a knock watching which you said how well he played,” he added
In the ongoing 2023 World Cup, Babar Azam has managed to accumulate a total of 216 runs in seven innings, averaging 30.85 with a strike rate of 77.69.
