(Watch) Marnus Labuschagne calling ‘Bazball’ “garbage” after it getting into Collins dictionary.
England’s innovative approach to playing Test cricket, known as ‘Bazball,’ has achieved recognition by making its way into the dictionary, becoming one of Collins’ 10 words of the year. Coined as a noun, it is defined in the dictionary as “a style of Test cricket in which the batting side seeks to seize the initiative by playing in an exceptionally aggressive manner.” The term’s origin is attributed to the influence of Brendon McCullum, commonly referred to as Baz, a former New Zealand cricketer and coach, who was born in 1981.
This newly recognized word, ‘Bazball,’ has been officially included on collinsdictionary.com and is slated for inclusion in the forthcoming edition of the Collins English Dictionary, which is known as the largest single-volume English dictionary in print.
In response to this development, Marnus Labuschagne from Australia, who is currently in India for the ODI World Cup 2023, shared a humorous reaction when informed about ‘Bazball’ making it into the dictionary. In a video posted by cricket.com.au, Labuschagne expressed his surprise, saying, “Oh man, that is garbage. I don’t know what that is. Honestly, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
The inclusion of ‘Bazball’ in the dictionary underscores the impact of this unique style of Test cricket and its association with Brendon McCullum and England’s captain, Ben Stokes, in redefining the game’s approach.
