Shreyas Iyer displayed his remarkable prowess during the 2023 World Cup, hitting the longest six of the tournament at a whopping 106 meters in the match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on November 2.

Prior to this remarkable feat, Shreyas Iyer had been grappling with a dip in form, with questions arising about his position in the playing XI. However, in this game, he took full advantage of the foundation laid by Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.

The 28-year-old middle-order batter launched his assault with a six off Kasun Rajitha, followed by another significant blow against Dushan Hemantha. But the most spectacular moment came when he effortlessly dispatched a delivery outside off-stump from Rajitha over long-on, sending the ball soaring for an astounding 106 meters. This colossal hit marked the longest six of the 2023 World Cup.

Iyer’s previous struggles had largely been due to difficulties in handling short deliveries, which had caused concern for Team India as they approached the crucial stage of the tournament. However, in this match, he silenced his critics by crafting a confident half-century in just 36 deliveries, showing his resilience and justifying the trust placed in him by the team management.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers had opportunities early in the game against Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli but failed to capitalize on them. The partnership between Gill and Kohli flourished, adding an impressive 189 runs off 178 deliveries for the second wicket. However, both batsmen fell short of their centuries, with Gill departing for 92 and Kohli for 88.

Sri Lanka did manage to make a comeback by taking the timely wickets of KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, but Shreyas Iyer stood firm at the crease, steering India past the 300-run mark
