ICC suspends Sri Lankan Cricket.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken the decision to suspend Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC), citing the failure to “manage its affairs autonomously.” The specific conditions of the suspension are yet to be determined by the world cricket governing body.

This development unfolded shortly after the unanimous passing of a resolution by the Sri Lankan parliament, calling for the removal of the SLC management, titled ‘the removal of the corrupt SLC management.’ Earlier, the country’s sports minister, Roshan Ranasinghe, had dismissed the SLC management and appointed former captain Arjuna Ranatunga to lead an interim committee governing the board. However, this decision was overturned by Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal, which reinstated the officials pending further inquiry.

ICC Statement had “The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership of the ICC with immediate effect.”

“The ICC Board met today and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.”

“The conditions of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board in due course.”
