“Mohammed Shami was approached by unfair means for a trade”, reveals Gujarat Titans COO.

Mohammed Shami, who, at 33 years old, continues to captivate the cricket community with his outstanding performances across various formats in 2023, displaying no indications of a decline in form.

Shami concluded the recently concluded ODI World Cup as the highest wicket-taker, adding another feather to his cap. In the earlier part of the year, he secured the purple cap in the Indian Premier League, contributing significantly to Gujarat Titans’ consecutive appearances in the finals. Shami’s exceptional displays on the field have significantly elevated his standing in the cricketing world.

Colonel Arvinder Singh, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Titans, disclosed that a team had expressed interest in recruiting the seasoned pacer during the IPL trading window. However, Singh expressed dissatisfaction with the approach of this particular team, highlighting that directly approaching a player goes against the rules established by the IPL governing body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Titans COO said “See, every team has the right to take good players to make their team stronger. Mohammed Shami has done well for us, won the purple cap holder last season, he performed well in the World Cup. He is a very important part of our team. The wrong thing is when some franchises directly approach players. The BCCI has made a procedure for trading. There is an expression of interest that goes to BCCI and it is subsequently shared to the concerned franchise, who can then they take a call whether to go on with the trade or not.”
