Former India batter Aakash Chopra has praised Rohit Sharma as a leader who consistently prioritizes the team over himself, following the conclusion of Rohit’s 10-year captaincy tenure with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Mumbai Indians officially announced on Friday, December 15, that all-rounder Hardik Pandya would lead the team in the IPL 2024 season. Pandya was acquired through a trade with the Gujarat Titans (GT), and speculation had been circulating regarding his potential appointment as the new captain of the MI franchise.

Chopra, in a discussion on his YouTube channel, described the conclusion of Rohit’s captaincy era with Mumbai Indians as the end of a significant period.

Aakash Chopra said “Rohit Sharma was one of the finest captains – 10 years, five trophies. A very successful captain. He understands the pulse of the game and managed the team really well. He always kept team ahead of self. Whether it was opening for the side or batting down the order, he did everything for Mumbai Indians that was asked of him.”
