Reports: Delhi Capitals asked Mumbai Indians for Rohit Sharma’s trade ahead of IPL 2024.
In anticipation of the highly awaited IPL 2024 auction, a flurry of activities surrounds the ten franchises with continuous updates on player trades and releases. The most significant development in recent days revolves around Hardik Pandya being appointed as the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), succeeding Rohit Sharma. Pandya’s return to MI after a two-year gap, facilitated by a player trade with Gujarat Titans, marked a pivotal moment.
Replacing Sharma, who steered Mumbai Indians to an impressive five IPL titles during his 11-year captaincy, Pandya assumed the leadership role. Recent reports in the cricketing realm suggest that Delhi Capitals (DC) approached MI with an offer to trade Rohit Sharma ahead of IPL 2024. Apparently seeking a veteran player to captain their side in the upcoming season, DC was motivated by the fact that their regular skipper, Rishabh Pant, would be playing as an Impact Player in the next edition.
However, MI declined the proposal, emphasizing their commitment to retaining their players. In order to secure Pandya’s return, they had to part ways with all-rounder Cameron Green, who was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore in an all-cash deal amounting to INR 17.50 crore.
